This week a student from Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen in Caernarfon had the chance to experience a week of work in the European Parliament.
Jill Evans MEP welcomed Sara Pennant to her office in Brussels. Sara is on her last year at sixth form studying French, History, Welsh and Music, and she was interested in seeing how the European Institutions worked.
Speaking to her about her time in Brussels, Sara said:
"By being present in different committees with some of Europe's most important political leaders, I've realised how relevant their work is for us in Wales. I was lucky enough to get to hear the Polish Presidency's intentions for Environmental issues over the next six months. This made me realise the huge problem the European Parliament has to find a solution to climate change over the world.
"In addition to finding out about the European Parliament's work, I came here to practice my French, and I'm certain that I've become more confident in speaking the language. Being in a multilingual work environment with meetings translated as you speak in 23 different languages was an experience I'll never forget.
"I'd like to thank Jill immensely for accepting me here, and her team for their welcome and their invaluable guidance. I'd recommend anyone who has an interest in politics to make an application to come here, it's been an incredible week."
Jill Evans MEP said,
"It's always an immense pleasure to welcome young people from Wales for work experience in Brussels. I'm proud that many young people can have the chance to have an inside look as to what it's like to work in the European Union's institutions, and of course, this helps to raise Wales' profile in Europe.
"I think that it's important to give young people the chance to see how the European Parliament works and how Wales can play its part."
