"Plaid Cymru always celebrates International Women’s Day as an opportunity to thank our women members for their incredible work over the years. On this, the 100th anniversary of international women's day, for the first time we have a woman president and the chief executive and chairperson of the party are both women.

In my role as president and MEP, I travel all over the country to meet and work with women campaigning for the future of their communities and the future of the planet. They are a real inspiration.

Since Plaid Cymru Women's Section was established in 1925, with Kate Roberts as its first chair, the party has provided a forum for women working together for independence. Following the historic "yes" vote last week, I invite all those women who want to build a nation proud of its commitment to equality, peace and social justice to join us."
