Chwarae Teg, which promotes the economic development of Women in Wales, will be presenting its work in Brussels to European representatives on 25 February.
In its tenth anniversary year Chwarae Teg has much to share with its colleagues in Europe about the progress on gender equality in Wales as well as the latest findings on the barriers still faced by women in Wales. A Chwarae Teg reception for European colleagues has been kindly hosted by Jill Evans MEP who is Vice Chair of the Women’s Rights & Equal Opportunities Committee.
Chwarae Teg Chief Executive Ruth Marks, Chair Neil Wooding and a management team delegation will also be attending the Women’s Rights and Equal Opportunities Committee and will meet with the Chair of the Committee and bureau heads, the head of the gender equality unit in the Commission and the DG Employment Cabinet member for women's rights. Ruth Marks said:
"We have an excellent relationship with the European Parliament and the Commission. This visit during ‘Wales in Europe Week’ has been planned to coincide with the start of our tenth year anniversary programme - to celebrate our work to date, share the top line findings of our new research and to discuss ideas for our forward European work programme."
"Much of what happens in Europe has a positive effect on the gender agenda in Wales and we work very closely with all our partners in Europe particularly those working to promote gender equality and all the MEPs who represent Wales. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate Welsh success stories in promoting gender equality as well as to share our on-going commitment and passion in Chwarae Teg to make equal opportunities in employment, education, enterprise and public life a reality for all in Wales."
Jill Evans MEP said:
"I am delighted to welcome the delegation from Chwarae Teg to the European Parliament and look forward to celebrating their 10th anniversary with them. They have done tremendous work over the last ten years in promoting and supporting women in the labour market in Wales and deal with many of the same issues that I tackle on a daily basis through my committee work in the European Parliament."
"I hope that this visit will build on the positive relationship between Chwarae Teg and the Parliament and I belive that other European countries can learn many lessons from the example of Chwarae Teg."
