Jill Evans MEP launches new App to help sing the national anthem

Jill Evans MEP launched a phone App to help smart-phone users learn the words to the Welsh national anthem. The Plaid President launched the App at the National Eisteddfod at Llandow, Vale of Glamorgan, on Tuesday (7/8/2012).

The App was inspired by singer and performer Gwenno Dafydd, who sings the anthem, with young musician Harri Davies on the piano. It is also possible to use the App to hear a version with the piano alone, a version played on the guitar and a phonetic version performed by Gwenno Dafydd.

    Jill Evans MEP said,

I think this is a brilliant idea. A lot of people are unsure of the words of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau but would love to be able to sing it. We've seen in recent weeks just how important our national anthem is to people and that it belongs to everyone in Wales. Even those who can sing it now may not be sure of its meaning. This App will help all kinds of people of all ages and I wish Gwenno and all who are involved every success with it in future.

    Gwenno Dafydd said,

I am extremely proud to be launching this App. Its a historic day and I hope that will encourage people to have the confidence to sing our national anthem. I think it was very fitting that Jill launched the App for us as someone with international links and appreciates how important it is to promote Wales internationally. The Dragon Songs app is available on the App Store to download from today. A promotional price of 69p will be available for the duration of the Eisteddfod.

    Ends.
