  • Plaid MEP congratulates new Rhondda Councillors
    May 5th 2008

Jill Evans MEP, who stood as Plaid candidate for Rhondda in the last Assembly elections, has expressed her congratulations to all new and re-elected Plaid Cymru councillors in Rhondda. Last Thursday's local elections saw Plaid take 42% of the vote in the Rhondda overall with Plaid winning an additional five seats increasing its number of councillors from three to eight.

Commenting on the election result, Euro MP Jill Evans said,

"This excellent result for Plaid in Rhondda of winning an additional five seats is a real testimony to the hard work and dedication of the candidates and the party. Plaid also came close to winning many more seats, with only 39 votes needed to win a seat in Pentre and 6 short of winning in Cymmer."

"The results prove that people are not satisfied with Labour. People have been let down by Labour time after time and realise that Plaid is the party to work for the communities of Rhondda."

"Following Labour's scathing attack last week, Plaid proved them wrong by winning both seats in Treherbert and all three in Treorchy. Plaid also won seats from Labour in Maerdy and Trealaw with two excellent candidates, and had good results in Porth and Penygraig."

"The people of Rhondda have shown their confidence in Plaid, and I now very much look forward to working with each of the councillors in their respective wards for the people of Rhondda."
