  • “Come Clean on Fair Trade!” demands MEP
    March 13th 2006

Plaid Cymru MEP Jill Evans – who lives in Rhondda Cynon Taf – has demanded that the Council comes clean on where it stands on Fair Trade.

Speaking in “Fair Trade Fortnight”, Mrs Evans expressed disappointment that a Motion committing the Council to Fair Trade was withdrawn at its meeting last November.

“Five other counties in Wales have already gained Fair Trade accreditation but Rhondda Cynon Taf seems far too timid.

“Local people in their communities and organisations are working hard for the Fair Trade movement. Even the big super-markets have seen the commercial advantage of this. But this Council is hanging back for no good reason.

“I’ve asked the Council Leader to embrace Fair Trade now throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf and earn the right to display that proud logo.”
