Plaid Cymru Leader Ieuan Wyn Jones AM, the party’s President Jill Evans MEP and other senior Plaid figures are today (Thursday 24 February) embarking on a tour of the north of Wales to campaign for a YES vote in the referendum which take place on 3 March.
With the campaign getting into its final week, Ieuan and his team are determined to show people across the north how a YES vote and a stronger National Assembly will be good for the region.
Ieuan Wyn Jones AM said:
“We are determined to take Wales forward, that Wales should have the tools to do the job properly so that the lives of people across Wales will be improved. Laws that affect only Wales should be made in Wales, and that is what this referendum is about.
"The current system of making Welsh laws has built-in delays and costs which are unnecessary and must be removed. That's what a Yes vote will achieve. The system is failing and we have a straight choice - do we want to fix it or not? I say, let's get this issue rectified with a Yes vote so that future Welsh governments can get on with the job in a more efficient and effective way.
“People have seen for themselves the benefits of a programme driven by a government in Wales, one which is concerned with the interests of Wales itself. In north Wales, we have had investment in the transport infrastructure, the economic renewal programme which will benefit communities across the whole of the north of Wales, and we have exceeded our target for increasing the amount of affordable housing available so that people are able to stay in their communities.
“We want to get the message across loud and clear that a YES vote on 3 March is vital for Wales.”
Jill Evans MEP, who represents the whole of Wales in the European Parliament, added:
“I have been campaigning across Wales for a YES vote but I believe that people in the north of Wales can go a long way towards delivering a resounding YES vote next week.
“I urge everyone to be proud of Wales and vote YES a vote which would streamline the system. Instead of negotiating with Whitehall about action we want to take to improve our communities, our Assembly Members could then use all their time and energy making things better for Wales. “
Ends.
