  • Plaid Cymru President salutes the contribution made by party members in conference speech
    September 10th 2011

At its annual conference in Llandudno, Plaid Cymru President Jill Evans told party members that their energy and enthusiasm is what will ensure the party’s future success. Ms Evans has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1999.

    Jill Evans MEP said,

"It's obvious to me that the members are enthusiastic about the Party’s future. After discussions with hundreds of members, in meetings all over Wales, I firmly believe that we are as united as ever. Our greatest asset as a Party is our members. We are rich in skills and talent, and the members are keen to play a major part in strengthening the party. I will be working flat out to help elect more Plaid councillors next May, to put us into government locally across the country."

Ms. Evans used her speech to reaffirm the need to prepare for future debates on independence. She added,

"We don't want a slanging match or any scaremongering, just the facts and figures. Research I recently commissioned proved what we in Plaid have known all along – that rather than being a hindrance to success, independence can be its catalyst. The size of Wales is not the problem; the only thing that limits us is our lack of ambition. Plaid is its members, its members are Plaid – we are a party led and driven by our members, and that is our strength.”

    Ends.
