Today Jill Evans MEP will become the first woman president of Plaid Cymru. Elected unopposed to the post and honoured to be taking over from Dafydd Iwan; she is expected to issue a challenge to members to make 2011 a historical, record-breaking year for the party.
Jill Evans MEP will say,
“Plaid Cymru is the only party with ambitions for Wales. That is our driving force – the reason we exist. We want to give people the power to decide on their own future. We have our vision of what we want and how to achieve it, working hand in hand with communities across the country.”
Promising to campaign the length and breadth of the country, Jill will challenge party members to get more Plaid Assembly members elected than ever before. A target she is confident that can be achieved.
Party Leader Ieuan Wyn Jones AM added,
“I am excited by the prospect of working closely with Jill during her term as president. I look forward to the future as Plaid evolves into a radical party of government.”
Ends.
