Plaid Cymru the Party of Wales announced today (Friday 7th November) that Jill Evans MEP has been chosen as the party's new Vice-President (Deputy Leader).
Ms Evans was elected unopposed to the position.
Speaking today, Ms Evans said,
"I am delighted and honoured to become Vice President of Plaid Cymru the Party of Wales and I would like to express my gratitude to all the party's members and branches from right across the country who have given me their support. Our strength as a party is our membership and I am looking forward to working with Dafydd Iwan to develop the membership of our party and continue broadening our appeal.
"As an MEP representing the whole of Wales I travel to all parts of the country and meet a wide range of people and organisations - this is critical to broadening the appeal of the party and taking our message of peace and social justice to an ever wider audience.
"Next year's elections, more than ever before, will be our opportunity to make the case for an independent Wales - we will set out what an independent Wales in Europe could achieve in terms of our society, our economy, our communities, and we will highlight the dangers of being left behind.
"We have a strong leadership team leading a rejuvenated party - I'm privileged to be part of that team and will do all I can to bring Plaid Cymru continued success in the future.
Party President, Dafydd Iwan said,
"I have known Jill Evans for many years. She is a dedicated, principled and tireless campaigner for the interests of Wales. I am delighted that she and I will now have an opportunity to work together even more closely on building our party and taking its message to the people of Wales."
