Welsh Euro-MP Jill Evans will travel to Israel and Palestine this week as part of a delegation of MEPs visiting the region. The delegation will visit the Jabalia Refugee camp and the town of Rafah on the Gaza strip. This is Ms Evans' third visit to the region.
The Euro-MP will meet with Palestinian and Israeli policy makers, politicians and representatives of civil society and will see first hand the effects of the controversial "wall" being constructed. Ms Evans will also meet representatives of Israeli and Palestinian women's groups.
The programme includes:
* Visit to Abou Dis, Palestinian town crossed by the Wall
* Visit to the West Bank
* Visit to Gaza, Jabalia refugee camp, and town of Rafah
* Meeting Israeli and Palestinian initiators of the Geneva Peace Accords (Yossi Bellin and Yasser Abed Rabo)
* Meeting members of Knesset and Israeli Foreign Ministry
* Meeting Yasser Arafat, President Palestinian National Authority
* Meeting members of Parents' Circle, support group that brings together Palestinian and Israeli parents who have lost children in the conflict
Jill Evans MEP said:
"During this visit we'll be meeting with representatives of Israeli and Palestinian society. It will be an opportunity to see at first hand how peoples lives are affected by the conflict and to see the effect of the wall on Palestinian communities.
"We will also meet Israeli and Palestinian parents who've been bereaved by the conflict and who now work together for peace and reconciliation."
The delegation will be in Israel and Palestine from Saturday 30 October to Wednesday 3 November. Jill Evans MEP, Deputy Leader of Plaid Cymru the Party of Wales, is the only member from the UK taking part in this week's visit.
