  • MEP urges Welsh media to back 'Reporters without Borders'
    January 16th 2009

Plaid MEP Jill Evans, the party's spokesperson for European and International issues, has written to editors and other journalists across Wales, urging them to back the Reporters without Borders petition, calling on the Israeli authorities to lift the ban on foreign media in the Gaza Strip. The only journalists in Gaza at present are 295 Palestinians working for various organisations.

The Plaid Vice-President, who represents the whole of Wales in the European Parliament, said:

"I am pleased to see that some Welsh publications have now signed the petition, but I'm asking journalists to speak to editors to urge them to do all they can to get their newspapers and other media organisations to sign the petition.

"It is vital that the world knows what is happening in Gaza. Over a thousand people killed and we have a right to know the truth."

The petition can be seen on the Reporters Without Borders website: www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=29928 .

News media that are interested in signing the appeal should contact us: gaza@rsf.org.
