All Wales Euro-MP Jill Evans is backing the Marie Curie St David's Day Daffodil Appeal in aid of cancer care. Ms Evans and other Welsh MEPs joined forces at the European Parliament in Brussels to wear specially made daffodils and distribute them to colleagues from across the European Union.
Speaking from Brussels, Ms Evans said:
"Cancer is a disease that touches the lives of so many people either directly or indirectly and that's why the wonderful work of Marie Curie Cancer Care is so important. On our national day it's very fitting that we should be able to mark the occasion by backing the work of this excellent charity.
I'm sure that by distributing these daffodils amongst MEPs from twenty five countries, we'll not only help raise Wales' profile in Europe but we'll also highlight the excellent work of Marie Curie, its nurses and hospices."
Cancer is the UK's biggest killer. Every year it claims the lives of more than 150,000 people, with a further one million living with the disease at any one time.
Every year the charity provides care to around 25,000 cancer patients and their families - entirely free of charge. Support is provided at home by specialist nurses or at one of ten hospices across the UK including one in Penarth, near Cardiff.
