Plaid MEP Jill Evans recently spoke at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary School's "Global Greenies" event which involved 7 schools from 6 European countries. This year the theme was the benefits of growing organic produce, healthy eating and taking regular exercise as well as recycling. Representatives from Eire, England, France, Greece and Hungary took part.
Jill Evans MEP said:
“The Global Greenies event was an excellent opportunity for the pupils to learn about the benefits of a green, healthy life-style. Their passion for recycling and protecting the environment was really exciting. It’s very encouraging that the pupils are being made aware of climate change at a very young age. They are the ones who will feel the effects and have to deal with the problems previous generations have created."

In addition to the environmental message, the event emphasised the importance of friendship across borders.
Maurice Flynn, Headteacher at St. Joseph's added:
"The children had a great time at the week of events we have been holding, and were able to share ideas and experiences. Getting to meet Ms. Evans was a chance for them to better understand Wales' role in Europe and how their representatives get involved in issues around the environment. I was also pleased that they learned of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and diet. I am sure the Global Greenies Event will go from strength to strength."
