  • Ceredigion’s C.A.T. leads the way
    December 14th 2010

Plaid President, Jill Evans MEP has praised the new state-of-the-art building at the Centre for Alternative Technology (C.A.T.) at Machynlleth. The building which is part of the Wales Institute for Sustainable Education or WISE project is being used to teach environmental courses including wind power, solar water heating and organic gardening.

After inspecting the new facilities which included a 200 seat circular lecture theatre, Jill Evans said,

“Climate change is the greatest threat and greatest challenge facing our planet today. It’s wonderful that we have a centre in Wales that’s leading the way in tackling the problem. The new facilities will help to educate and transform for the better, the way in which we live our lives.”

Ms. Evans, whose constituency covers the whole of Wales including Ceredigion, was met by lead Plaid Cymru candidate for Mid and West Wales, Simon Thomas, and C.A.T.’s Paul Allen.

Their meeting was the second this month after the MEP hosted the launch of C.A.T.'s "Zero Carbon Britain 2030" report at the European Parliament in Brussels on December 2nd.

    Mr. Thomas added,

“The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education (WISE) puts CAT at the forefront of planning for a more resilient and sustainable future for Wales and the world. The facilities are first class. Planning our buildings and environment for long term sustainability is actually the most economic option in the long term and CAT are showing the way ahead. Wales is rich in renewable energy resources, but they must be used wisely, and CAT is helping us plan that.”

    Ends.
