Plaid Cymru President, Jill Evans MEP will today be sponsoring "Battery Collection Day", a day designed to increase the number of batteries being recycled. The launch event will focus on the role played by the rechargeable battery industry in meeting the European Union’s targets, by creating greener and more efficiently recyclable products. Rechargeable batteries mean far less waste and are a more energy efficient option.

Ms. Evans said;
"With only 3% of Welsh batteries bought in 2009 being recycled, approximately 1,100 tonnes of batteries were sent to landfill in 2009. This is clearly far too many and leaves Wales behind many other European countries. Reduction of waste and energy efficiency is of huge importance so I am pleased to be launching this battery collection day. I hope that it can highlight how changes in our everyday lives backed up by strong laws can make a massive difference.”
