Plaid MEP, JIll Evans, takes part in a 'Question Time' style event on Saturday 31st October in The Old Library
in the Hayes, Cardiff, to debate the forthcoming summit on climate change.
The crucial United Nations meeting takes place in Copenhagen in December in an effort to agree a round of measures
that will further reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.
On Hallowe'en, Jill Evans MEP, warned that it's not the ghosts and ghouls that we should be scared of, the possibility
of not reaching a deal on climate change in Copenhagen is the scariest thing of all.
Jill Evans said,
"Time is running out. If the world warms up more than 2 degrees centigrade, over 20% of all our species are in danger
of extinction, and millions of people will be without food and water. People are dying now in the poorest countries
because of climate change.
"80% of the policies and action needed to prevent a catastrophe are implemented at a local or regional level. Wales
has been one of the leading countries in Europe and has some of the most radical policies to fight climate change,
which is why the 'One Wales' government should be represented in Copenhagen."
Jill Evans added,
"I know from all the poeple who contact me that people in Wales want to do more and play a part themselves. I'll be
urging everyone to contact the Secretary of State for Climate Change, Ed Miliband, to call for the strongest deal
in Copenhagen.
"It's appropriate on Hallowe'en that we're afraid; but this year we should be really afraid for the future of our
planet. I hope world leaders translate that fear into action."
