In response to the job losses announced today by UK junior defence minister, Quentin Davies, Jill Evans MEP said,

"For the workers in St Athan and their families, today's news of 339 job losses must be devastating. But surely most people must be wondering what on earth is going on! On the one hand we are told that the Defence Training Academy has the potential to create thousands of jobs and transform the economy of the Vale of Glamorgan. At the same time hundreds of real, existing jobs are being axed.

"This Labour UK government is trying to create an impression of bringing in new jobs when in reality they are making more people unemployed."
