  • Blaenafon Cheese for singing rugby supporters
    April 15th 2010

The Blaenafon Cheddar Company sent a supply of its distinctive, Welsh cheeses over to Brussels this week to satisfy a 50 strong group of singing rugby supporters.

The Ospreys Supporters Choir performed at the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday 13th April in an event hosted by Plaid Cymru MEP, Jill Evans. The successful family run business contributed to the refreshments.

The high profile performance was an opportunity to promote Welsh culture and quality Welsh brands. Brussels has a strong Welsh community and Welsh people from all over the European capital enjoyed the performance and the cheese from their homeland.

    Plaid MEP Jill Evans said:

"This was a very good opportunity to raise Wales's profile in the institutions of the European Union."

"As well as a taste of our music and culture, MEP's and the Welsh community in Brussels had an actual taste of finest Welsh cheese"

"I congratulate the Blaenafon cheddar company for showing Wales at its best. It is wonderful to see the success of a company which has used our history and traditions to build a new future. I am very proud of what Wales contributes to Europe and as an MEP representing Wales I take every opportunity to say so."

"The cheese disappeared within minutes. There wasn't a crumb left!"

Susan Fiander-Woodhouse, owner of the Blaenafon Cheddar Company added,

“The Blaenafon Cheddar Co, were extremely excited about the cultural event held this week. Having represented Wales at ‘The Disneyland Paris Welsh Festival’ in March it is good to know that the representation of Welsh produce is continuing.

“As a small family run business we do not produce enough product to satisfy the retail sector in Europe, but we do cope with private internet orders from all over the world.

“As a Food Tourism destination finalist for the ‘True Taste of Wales’, cross continent networking promotes Wales as an exciting producer of excellent food and culture, and we would very much like to thank Jill Evans MEP for inviting us to take part.”
