Plaid Cymru MEP Jill Evans has condemned the Burberry 'offer to the Welsh community' - as they call it - as small and inadequate. Burberry say they will 'donate' the site and its contents to the 'Welsh community'. It plans to close the factory with the loss of over 300 jobs.
The hugely profitable clothes firm say that they want to leave a lasting legacy for the benefit of the community, but Jill Evans said this afternoon:
"This is a small gesture which does not even come close to keeping 311 jobs for present and future generations in the Rhondda."
Jill Evans made her comments shortly before had talks this afternoon with the Welsh Clothing and Textile Association about the establishment of a cooperative on the site.
