On the day of the triggering of Article 50, Jill Evans MEP has committed to continue to work hard to make Wales’s voice is heard in the EU as the negotiations begin.
Speaking in Brussels today, Jill Evans MEP said:
“The triggering of Article 50 may signal the start of the UK's withdrawal from the EU but it must also signal the start of Wales's renaissance as an independent European nation.
“The UK government is prepared to crash out of the EU without taking into account any of the priorities outlined in the Welsh White Paper produced by the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
“I will leave no stone unturned in finding the best opportunities for Wales out of the turmoil that lies ahead of us. I will take any and every chance to influence the negotiations to keep us in the Single Market and to have the ability to continue participating in the many EU programmes that have benefitted Wales.
“We have not achieved our full potential and today must mark the start of a search for alternative ways of doing that.
“As the negotiations begin, the European Parliament begins discussing its own position. I will continue to ensure that Wales’s voice is heard in Europe at every step of the negotiating period.”
