  • Jill Evans MEP Monthly Report
    September 2015

  • I welcomed the eventual agreement at the European Council on the refugee crisis but criticised the shocking delay in achieving a common position and the fact that the UK government completely shirked it’s responsibility towards those fleeing the conflict in Syria and elsewhere.

  • I was invited by the Catalan Government to witness the historic elections of the 27th of September as part of an international delegation. The coalition for independence “Junts pel Si” won a majority of seats in the Catalan Parliament which gives them a mandate to begin the constitutional process towards independence.

  • Ahead of the announcement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals to 2030, I reiterated calls that eradicating poverty and tackling climate change must remain high on the agenda. Wales has a key role to play in realising these ambitious goals and tackling climate change.

  • I am finalising the latest in a series of papers in the run up to the EU referendum. This paper will be on the EU reforms we want.

  • I co-hosted a seminar entitled "Searching for a new narrative: The hopes of European Muslims in the EU" and invited Shereen Williams to speak on her work with communities in Wales.

  • I sponsored the Plaid Ifanc’s stall at the Freshers Fair in the University of Wales Trinity Saint David College in Carmarthen.

  • I took part in a “Meet your MEP” breakfast organised by the European Parliament London Office in Cardiff moderated by the BBC's Jamie Owen.

  • I spoke at the Glamorgan Federation of WI’s conference in Porthcawl on successful campaigning and making legislation happen.

  • I spoke at the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign’s rally in Cardiff on the day of the Wales-Israel game in Cardiff.

  • I voted in favour of draft EU legislation to ban cloning farm animals and food derived from them and their descendants, including imports.

  • Ceredigion WI Choir visited the European Parliament in Brussels
