  • Sponsored and spoke at an international seminar in Aberystwyth to mark Cymdeithas yr Iaith Cymraeg’s 50thanniversary entitled, “Campaigning for Oppressed Languages”. It was attended by language campaigners from several countries.

  • Attended conference at Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon.

  • Attended elected members’ training.

    In the European Parliament

  • Met Ieuan Wyn Jones AM to discuss Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation funding policies.

  • Met Roberto Hayder, European Commission official responsible for co-official languages, including Welsh, to discuss improving the procedure for corresponding with the EU in Welsh.

  • Met Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and European Programmes Alun Davies AM to discuss future EU regional and agricultural funding.

  • Met Claire Calder, Policy Officer for Companion Animals at Eurogroup for Animals to discuss the new legislation on pet passports.

  • Met representatives of the Iraqi government to discuss the current situation in the country and help establish a long term, cooperative working relationship between the EU and the Iraqi Governement. The newly established Partnership & Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Iraq is said to be the first of its kind.

  • Met Professor Richard Davies and Professor Iwan Davies of Swansea University to discuss the new Science and Innovation campus, Phase 1 of which is due to be completed in 2015.

  • Welcomed Sioned Rees to my Brussels office on a week’s work experience. Sioned, from Porth, Rhondda, is studying Law and Welsh at Cardiff University.
