    In Wales

  • Spoke at Cymdeithas Cymry, Porthcawl.

  • Visited Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, Pwllheli, and met with students studying for the Welsh Baccalaureate and A-Level Business. I discussed how politics fits into their qualification, particularly their “Wales, Europe and the World” module of the baccalaureate.

  • Spoke at an event to mark One World Week at the Memorial Hall, Cricieth.

  • Met Dr. Tony Davies of Vale Europe Ltd, Clydach, near Swansea, to discuss the European Directive on the use of cadmium in batteries.

  • Spoke at the ‘Friends of the Earth Pembrokeshire’ & ‘Environmental Network for Pembrokeshire’ public meeting on Tar Sands at the Bloomfield Centre, Narberth. My speech centred on the environmental dangers of tar sands and in particular the European Union's efforts to reduce the use of this highly polluting fossil fuel which is found deep underground in Canada.

  • Spoke at a meeting of the Bro Cernyw branch of Plaid Cymru in Llangernyw.

    In the European Parliament

  • Hosted Rural Wales Exhibition in the European Parliament in Brussels. Five exciting projects were chosen to showcase sustainable initiatives with the aim of showing how Wales uses its EU Rural Development Funding to develop a sustainable economy in rural Wales. The projects were from Denbighshire, Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire, Bridgend, Vale of Glamorgan and Torfaen, with a contribution by the Farmers' Union of Wales. One project concentrated on tourism whilst the others concentrated on encouraging local people to grow food, heritage and quality of life.

  • Took part in an EFA seminar that was held at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels as part of European Week of Regions and Cities. It featured speakers from Flanders, Wales, the Basque Country and Scotland.

    Ends.
