  • Jill Evans MEP Monthly Report
    November 2015

  • I represented Wales at a meeting in Kilkenny about the EU Wales/Ireland Cross Border Programme.

  • I called for Welsh Government to make clear and concrete commitments ahead of the Paris Climate Conference

  • I spoke against the unacceptable delays in direct payments that Welsh farmers have faced this year.

  • Took part in the Greens/EFA group discussion on the EU referendum and completed my paper on EU reform from the Welsh perspective.

  • I called on the Welsh Government to be proactive and deal directly with the European Commission and with other EU countries to further the interests of Wales in the EU.

  • Welcomed the launch of a new Greens/EFA online tool, Lobbycal, which will publish details of any meetings I have with lobbyists as and when they happen. The tool will be available on my website.

  • I voted in favour of a parliamentary resolution on the prevention of radicalisation and recruitment of citizens by terrorist organisations, because it includes some important steps in tackling a critical problem for Wales and Europe today. We need a detailed and effective long term strategy on which countries can work together.

  • I voted against a parliamentary motion on animal welfare because it was too weak. It is disappointing that the Commission has not brought forward a new strategy. In 2014 I organised a petition calling for a Commissioner responsible for animal welfare and I believe that if this had happened we would have a strategy now.

  • I met Elgan Morgan from the South Wales Chamber of Commerce.

  • I met with representatives of the British Deaf Association.

  • I welcomed young farmers that formed part of NFU Wales’ Next Generation Policy Forum to Brussels.

  • I discussed matters such as the EU referendum, the common agricultural policy and infrastructure investment with members of the WLGA Rural Forum.

  • I Attended the EEA Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting in Brussels.

  • I took part in a study visit to Belgrade and Sarajevo on the 20th Anniversary of the Dayton Agreement.
