  • Jill Evans MEP Monthly Report
    May 2015

  • I arranged to meet students from Coleg Glynllifon in the European Parliament where Common Agricultural Payments and the EU in-out referendum were discussed.

  • I participated in a meeting with the other welsh MEPs, the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly and the Committee Chairs to discuss EU-Wales issues.

  • I attended the Cross Party Group in Europe and took part in a well-attended MEPs question time.

  • I spoke at Brigend’s Cylch Cinio Merched to outline the benefits of EU membership for Wales.

  • I welcomed the European Parliament’s vote on transparency throughout the supply chain, to help end the violence and oppression linked to conflict minerals.

  • I criticised the European Commission's 'Better Regulation' agenda. I have long called for cutting red for business, consumers and communities in Wales but it must not be used as an excuse for deregulation of environmental and social standards.

  • I signed the pledge for a Dolphinaria-free Europe.

  • I sponsored Welsh Thalidomide Survivors to come to Brussels as part of the Fifty Year Campaign for justice for survivors.

  • I spoke in the plenary debate on the EU scheme for free fruit and vegetables, bananas and milk in schools. The UK has opted out of the fruit scheme.

  • I was granted access to the MEP reading room to see the TTIP negotiating papers and examined those papers relating to PGI status.

  • I met a Welsh delegation from the British Medical Association to discuss progress on Welsh legislation, including the Future Generations Bill, workforce and contracts.
