  • Jill Evans MEP Monthly Report
    June 2015

  • I voted in favour of the new European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI). The Commission has launched this with the aim of attracting 315 billion euros to boost the economy and create jobs. The European Investment Bank will assume risks for projects to encourage greater private and public sector investment. I did oppose shifting funds from other research budgets but supported EFSI as a move from austerity to investment.

  • With a view to ensuring Wales gets the maximum benefit from EFSI, I wrote to the First Minister to urge him to request a workshop in Wales to discuss detailed proposals for funding.

  • I welcomed the massive lobbying against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) which resulted in the postponement of the vote and the debate. I continue to campaign against TTIP and took part in a debate in Cardiff organised by the the European Parliament’s UK office. I will also be sponsoring a RCN conference on TTIP.

  • I questioned Commissioner Tibor Navracsics on the European Commission’s strategy on regional and minority languages; on his engagement with education ministers from devolved governments including the National Assembly; and on access to funding from Creative Europe for Welsh language projects in the media sector.

  • I led for the Greens/EFA group on the Culture Committee’s report on Geographical Indicators for Non-Agricultural products and submitted amendments to ensure that labelling would reflect the diversity of products.

  • I hosted a meeting with the Network of European Regions for Sustainable and Competitive Tourism (NECSTour) to discuss the importance of a regional approach when developing sustainable tourism and the role of the Tourism Taskforce in the European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee.

  • I went on a study visit to Palestine with the European Free Alliance and we have requested a follow-up meeting with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

  • I welcomed the Welsh Government's belated application for European funding from the TEN-T scheme to improve the A55 corridor.

  • I met members of the Assembly’s Petition Committee in Brussels.

  • I met the Assembly Enterprise and Business Committee in Brussels.

  • I met Sinn Fein and the SNP in Strasbourg to discuss our EU referendum strategy.

  • I organised a visit by Cardiff’s Société Franco-Britannique to the European Parliament in Strasbourg

  • I organised a week's work experience for Gethin Bennett from Cefneithin, Carmarthenshire
